History of the Private Club in Chicago
Court Tennis Court
The original court opened in 1924 along with the completion of the clubhouse. The court had several years of play and was enjoyed by countless members. As a result of the Great Depression, the decision was made to turn the court tennis court into a lawn tennis facility in hopes of attracting new members. At the time, an indoor lawn tennis court was a unique offering in Chicago. The last court tennis club champion was crowned in 1932.
In 2011, the Board of Governors at the Private Club in Chicago announced that they would be restoring the court from a ‘lawn tennis’ facility back to the original court tennis court similar to the original back when the Private Club opened in the 1920’s. Bramco Construction company was given the opportunity to restore another historical building within the great city of Chicago and restored the long-lived lawn tennis court back to the court tennis court.
